However, there are many curious users wondering how the goodness of Jelly Bean would feel like in their Galaxy Nexus in regions where the Jelly Bean OTA update has not reached. It is for this sole reason, that we decided to give you all a treat by publishing a little guide on how to manually flash today’s Jelly Bean updates to your GSM Galaxy Nexus.
First of all, you need to be running the takju version of the Galaxy Nexus. If you are running the 4.1 preview then download this OTA package. If you’re running 4.0.4 then download this OTA package.
It should be noted that the method might work with other versions too but, trust us, you don’t want to be the first one to try it. Specially without any advice from the folks at XDA.
To make this method work, you will need to download a few tools too, namely ClockworkMod recovery, the fastboot files you used to unlock your bootloader, and ofcourse the OTA package(links given above).
Now that you have all what’s needed, lets get started. First, you’ll need to search manually for the folder where the fastboot installation is present. Place the ClockworkMod recovery image file (the one which has .img as file extension) in the folder with fastboot. Copy the OTA package zip file downloaded earlier to the storage on your phone. Now power down your Galaxy Nexus and then hold the volume button up and volume button down simultaneously and then press power to enter the bootloader. Now follow these simple steps.
Step 1–> Plug your Galaxy Nexus into a high-speed USB port on the host computer.
Step 2–> Open the command line on the host computer, and browse to the folder where fastboot and the ClockworkMod image are located.
At the command line, we need to tell our Galaxy Nexys to reboot into ClockworkMod. We are not going to flash anything. If you have a windows host machine, then you must type fastboot-windows.exe boot recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.2-maguro.img. If you are using Max or Linux then you will have to type fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.2-maguro.img .
Everything goes easy from here on, after following the above steps your Galaxy Nexus will reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, where the on screen instructions are to be followed and the OTA package which you downloaded can be flashed easily.
When you are done with the flashing, reboot your Galaxy Nexus from the ClockworkMod recovery menu. Then, there is just one last step which is needed to be completed after rebooting. Enjoy your Galaxy Nexus with the goodness of Android Jelly Bean.
The best part of this method is that since there is no need to flash CWM, the phone will still be running 100% stock Jelly Bean on Galaxy Nexus.
